McIntosh Double Box?
Another possible solution is only use the inner box for the equipment & then put other things you’re bringing in the car in the outer box assuming both boxes can fit by making room for it with the stuff you put inside it.
HiFi Kit Building- have you ever built any hifi gear?
Like several others here, I built a pair of Hafler DH - 200’s ( strapped them for mono) in 1981 & then Hafler Five Hundred power amp in the mid 80’s . All of them sounded really good for the $ vs what was available then. They powered my DCM Ti...
Record to break your lease.
“Step In Time” cut on the direct to disc recording of Thelma Houston & Pressure Cooker (Lincoln Mayorga & Co.) -“I’ve Got The  Music in Me”.  Whole album is great!   The bigger the woofers & power, the quicker you will be asked to lea...
Looking For A New Tube Integrated Amp With Very Specific Features
+1 for a Rogers High Fidelity Integrated amp. I have a bigger model in his line up ( EHF 200 Mark II) & really enjoy it. It’s built to a very high standard, sounds excellent & been trouble free for several years now.
The Best Music You Have Ever Heard?
“Best” is not a term I use when thinking of music as it’s art & all subjective & how it makes you feel at the time but some songs I really like & always make me feel good: ”These Days” by Jackson Browne. ”I Feel The Earth Move” by Ca...
“Civilian” reaction to your gear?
I had someone call my amp of years ago, an Art Audio PX 25 power amp a “Time Machine “.  She actually wasn’t far enough considering it was based on a big old tube. Funny.
Your turntable history
1974 - BIC 960 w/ Stanton 681 EEE cartridge.  note: piece of junk! I think it was engineered pretty well but quality of materials & construction were cheap. Should have bought a Dual or Thorens.    Thorens 160 w Shure V15 Type 3 NAD turntabl...
Gone but not forgotten
I had an Amber power amp rated at 70 watts / side & it sounded noticeably better than the Hafler DH 200 power amp I built which was pretty good on my Snell AII’s. I miss all of them!
How many watts do you really need?
Power requirements depends on the sensitivity of your loudspeakers, the size of the room, type of music ( to a degree) & most importantly how loud you enjoy your music. If you have a lower sensitivity speaker, maybe 85 db/watt/meter or lower &...
What does "Warm" mean?
It’s interesting that the description of “ warm” vs “cool” light is quite similar to audio version. From Google: Warm light and cool light are distinguished by their color temperature, measured in Kelvin (K). Warm light (2700K - 3000K) mimics sun...
Concert Ticket Prices - Not a Rant - Just an Observation
Of course paying many hundreds of dollars to see a big name show sucks but other than some small appliances, just about everything has gone way up especially since our Covid fiasco.    My real complaint about concerts today is the most of them so...
MM vs. MC: What Happens When People Jump Into MC Too Early?
From what I know from my Dad who was in that business & knew Joe Grado personally, Grado invented & patented the first STEREO mc cartridge in the late 50’s. Current Google information concurs with this.
MM vs. MC: What Happens When People Jump Into MC Too Early?
Interesting fact: Joe Grado invented the stereo moving coil phono cartridge in the 1950’s but never marketed one! The very good full Grado line are all moving magnet. Funny..
How do Dahlquist DQ10 stack up against current speakers?
I think speakers from Dynaudio, Mofi, Paradigm, PSB etc all have models around &5k that can outperform those Dalquists in just about every way.
Does the Devore Fidelity Orangutan 0/96 speaker play rich and full bodied at 50 Decibels
The original Quad electrostatics sounded pretty good at low volumes, they just couldn’t play loud. Maybe seek out a refurbished pair & or their next generation?
