Feet of Silence
These have got to be just about the most substantial isolation gizmos around, and not a budget product. I, too, would like to know how they work. Their shelving looks interesting as well.
Any Dacs compatible with cd players ?
Samski, if your player, transport or changer has digital outputs you can connect it to any dac. Suggest you do a search regarding dacs -- there are so many good ones metioned here, and at many different price points, that I hesitate to make a spec...
New Audioquest cables vs. Old?
Kev, I think those in the know are laying low. The good, older stuff is hard enough to come by these days. Thanks to you starting this thread I'm a bit closer to my goal as two members have been kind enough to contact me off-line and make deals fo...
Wisconsin - Anyone interested?
Samuel, see it *is* a stimulating place. Brats, beer, co-eds and t-shirts. Three of the four fall into the basic food group. Any leads on how to order shirts? They really are quite cool.
Maintaining an Even Keel.
Craig, don't even mention earthquakes. The mere mention gives me *the fear*. My biggest worry with my system. But there's not a whole lot to be done. Oh, well. At least we've got good weather.
Nominal Impedence and Amp Taps
Yes, in most instances. But if your speakers have unusually large impedance swings (like some esl's do) you can try the other taps and determine what sounds best to you. My speakers have a nominal load of 5ohms with swings from 1.5 to 32 ohms. The...
Audible Illusions M3A update
You can get a new Mod3a for $1250 by simply sending your old Mod3 or 3A back to AI. Give them a call to see if they are still doing this. I wound up going through a local dealer who was willing to give me the same deal.I was under the impression t...
Wisconsin - Anyone interested?
Spud, I'm surprised at your post since I've found Wisconsin --especially Mad City -- to be a pretty stimulating place. If you start the "Cheesehead Audio Society" maybe you can include some honorary out of state memberships. Are the "#%&! Em B...
Maintaining an Even Keel.
Dekay, make a lot of sense. I actually did this when I set up my transport. Can't say what the difference was since it turned out to be perfectly level. This process assumes, however, that the transport mechanism inside the case is level. Not a sl...
Digital Rules
Hey, mannnnnnn! A double negative vote for subscribing our trolling buddy to "Eight Track World"? It's a *real* newsletter. Now, how the hell am I going to get enough points to trade in those steak knives for a set of Tiki God tropical cocktail gl...
Daisy-chain an amp or not
I guess plugging a blender in is no problem, so long as it isn't the ultra high current variety. I haven't seen those types of outlets since my NAD 3020 days ;-) I agree, best not to use them for your amp or any other current hungry piece.
New Audioquest cables vs. Old?
Thanks a lot Kevsiek. You were supposed to keep your mouth shut until I finished tracking down enough of the original Lapis and Emerald to complete the IC's in my system. In fact, I am impatiently waiting for delivery of another pair of Emeralds t...
Digital Rules
Troll-boy, as a reward for your efforts we've decided to chip in and get you a lifetime subscription to "Eight Track World". Keep an eye out for the first issue.
help with phono pre amp questions/stylus
Most phono sections will handle a medium to high output MC catridges in addition to MM. A 2-2.5 mv MC should work fine, at least it does on my Mod3 and other tube pre's that I'm familiar with. Check with manufacturers if you're not sure about this.
Best and Worst Product Names
I like the "Lead Balloon" turntable stand, and the "Feet of Silence" isolation devices. On a non-audio note, I was also fond of a name used on an old home brew of mine... "Piss Toad Nail Ale". Had a picture of the Checkered Demon from Zap comics o...
