Krell - Martin Logan power question.
I agree with Spot. Tubes are really the only way to go to get the most out of CLS's. I am currently using a McCormack DNA1 Deluxe which reacts well to impedance dips (actually doesn't react much at all which is good) and is "rolled off" as solid s...
What kind of amplification for Martin Logan SL3 ?
I can't comment on Argent, but I've used both AQ Midnight and Clear with good results. Same hyperlitz family as Argent, more or less. Those in the know say that Goertz are really the way to go -- I'm going soon. Good luck.
What kind of amplification for Martin Logan SL3 ?
ML's reputation for being hard to drive is way overblown. I sometimes wonder if everyone giving opinions has even heard these speakers. First, SL3's are no big deal to drive -- they aren't even real electrostatics -- why do you think that ML compr...
need help on choosing right power cord!
The power cord thing has had me either intrigued or quizzical for some time. Or, it has my head all #@%&^! up! Let's say that I was to put something like TG Audio cords,(reasonable and favorably reviewed by my compadres), in all of my componen...
Good CD transport < $500
Best bet for the money is a used Theta, EAD, or Monarchy "universal" transport that is based on high end Japanese laser/mutidisc players (4 different disc sizes). These are inexpensive now and far superior to the low end stuff mentioned here. They...
CD other tweaks
For a CD that "skips" or doesn't read properly try a little Meguiare's gently applied by hand and then polished off completely. Yeah, I know this stuff is for cars but it really works. I'm not kidding. Do not know about the long term effects, but ...
Tube vs Solid State - Comparable Output?
Thanks for the input, guys. I've recently purchased a pair of Martin Logan CLS II's (non Z version). Not set up yet due to a recent move. My McCormack DNA 1 Deluxe has done a good job of driving my Apogee hybrids and I'll try it out with the CLS's...
Martin Logan Versus Magnepan
Doug, my point exactly. I can live without the torque, if I have everything else. And, the CLS's and my GTV6 have that quality -- in spades. No more car references, (no matter how appropriate), before we have to put on our Nomex suits. I will chec...
Martin Logan Versus Magnepan
The Quads are magic for us detail freaks --- IF they are the old ones...
Martin Logan Versus Magnepan
Geeez Dug, ewe are everywhere! The issue of limited db on the ML's is like the difference bewteen your Pantera and your GTV6. I admit that the CLS's won't pay as loud as some speakers or go as deep (but the bass is there -- just not as apparent as...
Martin Logan Versus Magnepan
For less than the price of either of these speakers new -- both evry nice speakers -- you can get mint condition used CLS2's or CLSz's and experience a full on electrostatic. Far better than either in terms of transparency and ability to resolve d...
