Best bourbon?
Another vote for Maker's Mark.
Is my anti-skating too strong.
Yes, if you had anti-skate engaged that could do what you describe, and the advice to disable for all arm adjustments, and make anti-skate the last is correct.  But experiment, that is the best way to learn.  Learn how to tell when you have over- ...
Vinyl headache from hell!!!
My guess is you might have a slight fracture in your tonearm internat wiring that is aggravated/not by the position of the arm.
Who else is using old cables/interconnects, and is happy?
Like inna6,071, I am still using Purist fluid cables from 25 years ago for my main speakers .... borrowed a few others to try and if anything they downgraded the sound.  Have  the entire main and secondary system on Monster Reference M1000 cables ...
what are some of best tonearms you own or experience with.
An oldy but never surpassed:  Syrinx PU-2 or PU-3.
Which Component Has the Greatest Affect on Low-Level Listening
The preamplifier, doubtless.  Why?  Because unless it is forty or more years old, it lacks a "Loudness" control, which was specifically designed to solve this problem  It emulated the Fletcher-Munson curve in reverse according to the level set.  S...
Better Amp for Cornwall IV's...
Tubes ..... the Klipsch's (all of them) are made for tubes.  Since looks are important to you, look for an upgraded Fisher 101 or 202 integrated stereo tube amp from the '60's and you'll be in 7th heaven.
What did your system look like 30 years ago?

Does Age Matter?
Age 80.  Prefer Analog slightly, but listen equally to analog and digital.  SACD and DVD-A prefered to CD all else equal (rarely is).  And tape preferred to LP.
The anachronistic CD Transport? And do I really need one.
Here's a very low cost solution.  Back at the dawn of high-res disks, Pioneer introduced a very inexpensive mass market universal player (SACD, DVD-Audio, and CD).  The transport is rock solid, the same one that gave expensive audiophile CD player...
Speaker upgrade for classical music
I can echo Magnepans, perhaps 2.7qr's or 1.7i's in front, an MMG center channel, and two wall-mounted surround maggies.  Buy used and your'll have plenty of change left over, and no need to ever upgrade speakers again.
Are there speakers with cloth/soft enclosures instead of wood?
Magnepan, Vanderstein, Dalquist, Thiel, Heil, Ohm all made(make) speakers at least partially covered by fabric (although all but Magnepan,  Quad, and Dalquist had boxes for some of the drivers.)  Going back even further, Stu Hegeman had a partial ...
For the Audiophile with a taste for good design(looks)....a question.
JBL Paragon Integrated Stereo Loudspeaker, without a question.  JBL has always been stylish in most of its designs, but this late '60's speaker is without question the most stylish loudspeaker ever mass produced.
DAC's Made in the USA
This is what many may regard as an off-the-way suggestion.  But here it is, anyway:  you might consider selling the Sony universal player and buying a used (only because they no longer exist new) Oppo 105 universal disk player.  This player has ex...
What Audio Religion have you converted others to successfully?
Hmm .... let's see .... wide band response, then controlled band response.  ORTF mic'ng.  Quadraphonics, and later analog-only five channel sound.  SACD.  And tubes, tubes, tubes.
