Sensitive enough speakers for low power SET
I'm running Tonian Lab TL-D1s with my 2.5 watt Korneff 45SE integrated amp. This is a wonderfully musical combination. Very dynamic, with incredible soundstaging. I believe that the TL-D1s go for about $2,200 new, but Tony also makes some very wel...
Tube Amp for Green Mountain Audio Callisto
I would have expected this as well, but tried an Carissa Signature 845 amp with my GMA Eos HDs,and didn't like the synergy at all. I had fantastic success, on the other hand, with a VAC Avatar Super, as well as Eico HF-81. Both velvety full and lu...
Good $2k Used Speakers for 20wpc tube amp
I would strongly urge you to consider the Reynaud Offrandes. I've owned these in the past. They are fantastic. Do a search. There is a pair currently listed in your price range. The designer is a big fan of the Stingray.
Integrated for Green Mountain - Classe, Bel Canto
Congratulations on your decision. You're absolutely right about Roy. A fantastic guy, who cares passionately about his speakers, and the consumers who purchase them. Enjoy your system!
Integrated for Green Mountain - Classe, Bel Canto
If you are interested in looking into an Eico HF-81, understand that these are vintage amps, almost 50 years old, and must be restored by a reliable technician. They often show up on Audiogon for $800-900 restored. I love mine, but they can be a b...
Integrated for Green Mountain - Classe, Bel Canto
Which model are your speakers? I've had great success with an Eico HF-81 integrated on my EOS HDs. I've wondered how the Manley Stingray, another EL84 tube based integrated would do with them. They can definitely been found used in your price rang...
What is the Best Integrated tube amp you heard
I've had the pleasure of owning some really great integrated amps, including the VAC Phi Beta. My favorite though, has been the New Audio Frontiers 845 SE, which I regrettably sold, as my Reynaud Offrandes were not completely SET compatible. Curre...
Review: Green Mountain Audio EOS HD Monitor
Wow, fantastic review. Since I'm sitting in my living room listening to the very same speakers as I type, I can confirm your description as accurate, and not exaggerated in the least. These are truly exceptional speakers that deserve to become bet...
New Green Mountain Audio Website
Not only would I; I did. Don't be too quick to jump to conclusions. The Green Mountain Audio speakers are not designed primarily to make a stylistic impression. Roy Johnson is a brilliant designer, whose physics background factors heavily into the...
The best acoustic guitar recordings??
The one I've been playing the heck out of lately is "Floating on the Silence," by Tom Wolfe and Gene Bertoncini. Absolutely virtuostic performances of original jazz compositions and standards. Just the two guitarists, unaccompanied. The music and ...
Genalex GL KT88 Reissue on Conrad Johnson 12
I am also using these with a VAC Avatar Super, and am very pleased. I got mine from Jim McShane at Citation Amps.http://pages.prodigy.net/jimmcshane/tubes.htm. He matches them very carefully, and has a stellar reputation.
Speltz Anti Cable vs. SilverClear Day Speaker Wire
Wow, stop presses. Since my original post, I've had a chance to try some prototype "Reference Shotgun" Clear Day cables that Paul is working on. If I understand correctly, these are essentially double the stranding of his standard shotgun cables. ...
Speltz Anti Cable vs. SilverClear Day Speaker Wire
Paul advertises his Clear Day cables on Audiogon. I don't know if I'm allowed to post a link to the current ad. Just use the search function. His user name is Vonwaffen. Mine are still breaking in, and are sounding even better over the past few da...
Speltz Anti Cable vs. SilverClear Day Speaker Wire
I've had both. In my system, the Silver Clear Day cables in shotgun configuration were the clear winners. Quite astonishing, in fact. They have the detail and transparency typical of silver cables, but are also warm, and utterly non-fatiguing. I l...
Your First Concert was.....
An event sponsered by WFIL AM radio in Philadelphia, in the early 70's. I was the lucky caller who won tickets. I must have been in 7th or 8th grade. I remember Jim Croce, Jose Feliciano, the O'Jays, and I think, the Raspberries, playing there. Th...
