Is the 2.5 way speaker the ideal home speaker?
@astewart8944  - The one thing, I would encourage you to play with room acoustics. Throw some blankets between and behind the speakers on the floor. See if you find something there you like. Of course, this is temporary!!! Best,E
Is the 2.5 way speaker the ideal home speaker?
@astewart8944 - Then I'd suggest keeping what you have. Dialing in a new pair of speakers like that will get complicated. @kijanki - Could you explain what you mean about bending at the upper midrange? Best,E
Is the 2.5 way speaker the ideal home speaker?
HI @astewart8944 - Not sure if I was clear. With the Pearls, I’d be tempted to run the bass units via your EQ and separate amps. The trouble area is 16 to 60 Hz. In that range, dragons lurk. This is why smaller speakers may sound "faster" or "more ...
Is the 2.5 way speaker the ideal home speaker?
@rlb61  thanks for the info. I really have learned a lot from your insights. What a terribly kind thing to say, thank you. E
Is the 2.5 way speaker the ideal home speaker?
hi @astewart8944 ! Well, I think of 2.5 way as full-range. I meant, that for the slim form factor a 2.5 way can offer a lot of benefits compared to a more traditional 3-way with a large diameter woofer. In all cases, the ability to use a separate ...
Is the 2.5 way speaker the ideal home speaker?
Hi @rlb61 - Sorry for the confusion!Whether or not a speaker is a 2.5 way is characterized by the crossover, not the woofers. In a 2.5 way, the two woofers have low pass filters ONLY, but set to different points and slopes. This can be implemented...
Is the 2.5 way speaker the ideal home speaker?
@prof - Yes indeed. :)
Is the 2.5 way speaker the ideal home speaker?
I think one of the main benefits of a 2.5 way is foot print vs. bass extension and dynamic range as well as overall speaker sensitivity. 2.5 way speakers tend to be made with 6" drivers, so you end up with a rather narrow speaker overall. there ar...
Is the 2.5 way speaker the ideal home speaker?
+1 @rlb61 - This is also one of my top methods for exactly those reasons amg - I think you have to separate the enclosures, to avoid having the lower woofer interact in weird ways with the upper woofer.
A Question on Speaker Driver Efficiency
I encourage anyone wanting to follow along, to grab XSim crossover simulator, and examining the Frequency Response, Watts Dissipated and Impedance charts. http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/software-tools/259865-xsim-free-crossover-designer.htmlThe "b...
Sound differences between Copper and Aluminum Bus Bar Electrical Panels
Where exactly does this end, and what exactly are you training your neural paths to do for you? I mean, if this is all that, you need to go fully off grid, and design some audiophile grade inverters. Maybe just go full battery powered listening ro...
A Question on Speaker Driver Efficiency
Hi OP! XSim will help you evaluate the impedance and relative output. You can try making up circuits of various speaker drivers, and the output volume AND impedance will change when you do. :) So it gives you immediate feedback to possible choices...
New Speakers ... Can't Stop "Listening"
Hi @kalali - This is a digression. I'm not saying everyone should design their own speakers, nor do I think saving money is the reason to do so. I do think every audiophile should get their hands at least a little dirty at least once in their hobb...
New Speakers ... Can't Stop "Listening"
@markalarsen I think you have a wonderful perspective! And yes, selling kits used is a B, but on the other hand, you did not invest that much to begin with. Direct comparisons matter a great deal, and it is horribly unfair to designers at JA to at...
New Speakers ... Can't Stop "Listening"
Shame I can't post images. So looking at the Stereophile review for the Perspectives, and the data at Madisound, the crossovers are entirely different. One of the main results appears to be the lowering of the tweeter / woofer frequency with the J...
