Folded tweeters vs. dome?
Guess my point is this: For any type of driver technology  (Neodynium, Paper, Beryllium, AMT, dome, etc.) there are a wide range of quality and options. Buying a speaker because it has a dome Be tweeter, for instance, is not the way to go.
Folded tweeters vs. dome?
I love AMT's and have never heard a GE speaker worth paying money for. I strongly suggest you stay away from this type of buying based on technology. Stick to the results in finished products. Now, if you feel like making your own, then there's lo...
Is the 2.5 way speaker the ideal home speaker?
I'm not sure I follow, @helomech - Usually higher tweeter points are achieved with 3-way systems which use a "true" midrange. Best,E
Who makes the best "Coaxial" Tweeter/Midrange design?
Every Thiel I heard was an ear drill, sorry. Maybe it was the McIntosh gear I heard them with?
Is the 2.5 way speaker the ideal home speaker?
It is not a dispersion pattern for particular speaker but for the group of them. Speakers that have large membrane (2.5 way) will suffer. @kijanki - In what way? For me to believe this, I have to agree that wider = better at all times. I do no...
Most resolving Speaker
A large part of a speaker’s resolution is room acoustics, and some of it IMHO may be from drivers that go far from neutral. In the right room, Sander’s Sound ESLs, and Magico are two I appreciate. Some speakers are "resolving" in a way I really do...
Is the 2.5 way speaker the ideal home speaker?
@cedargrover I think you have it backwards. The top two drivers are just a traditional 2-way. The treble covers above 3kHz. The midrange is only covered by the upper woofer. Say it has a low pass at 3 kHz. Up to here, this is a normal 2-way. The a...
Is the 2.5 way speaker the ideal home speaker?
@Cedargrover Indeed, but this is what crossover designers must do anyway. In any multi-way system there is almost always some level matching that must occur, in this case that as well as the dimensions of the upper woofer enclosure must be careful...
Is the 2.5 way speaker the ideal home speaker?
@kijanki - What I mean to say is, there is no 1 ideal dispersion pattern. From ESL's to open baffles, to traditional multi-way speakers, some with horns. All have very different radiating patterns, and all have ardent fans.Beaming is not, by itsel...
Is the 2.5 way speaker the ideal home speaker?
Hi Kijanki! You say beaming is a disadvantage? I disagree! :)  A speaker with tight dispersion can sound better in the sweet spot, especially with an acoustically messy room. It all depends on your listening style and location. Some of Magico's sma...
Is the 2.5 way speaker the ideal home speaker?
Let me get a little more basic. Typically when you read about a "crossover point" in a speaker, you are actually talking about 2 filters: A low passA high pass So a 2-way speaker has a crossover point of 3 kHz. That means there’s a high pass filte...
Is the 2.5 way speaker the ideal home speaker?
Hi @donvito101 -The term 2.5 way is a term of art. The difference is in the filters on the upper woofer. Here it is:2.5-way : Has NO high pass filter. 3  -way: Has both a high pass and low pass filter. What is confusing is that in both a 2.5 and 3...
Is the 2.5 way speaker the ideal home speaker?
Hi @kijanki - I think you are confusing an open baffle and beaming.Open baffle speakers behave like you describe, with a complete null at the sides. Boxed speakers do not. The issue with frequency vs. angle is not related to delays, phase shifts o...
Is the 2.5 way speaker the ideal home speaker?
@astewart8944  - The one thing, I would encourage you to play with room acoustics. Throw some blankets between and behind the speakers on the floor. See if you find something there you like. Of course, this is temporary!!! Best,E
Is the 2.5 way speaker the ideal home speaker?
@astewart8944 - Then I'd suggest keeping what you have. Dialing in a new pair of speakers like that will get complicated. @kijanki - Could you explain what you mean about bending at the upper midrange? Best,E
