The point is moot now as the preamp has been sold. Either the OP bought it or someone else did.https://www.audiogon.com/listings/lisa8bfd-mcintosh-c-46-solid-state?refsource=hifishark

A Jolida JD9 might be a good choice. Affordable, versatile, easy to upgrade and sounds good.https://www.audiokarma.org/forums/index.php?threads/official-jolida-jd9-thread.344317/

Sky HIGH fi
Well, the SkyFi one is listed at $6499.00 and includes: The Ultimate Factory upgrade - $1595.00, Bybee Music Rails and Kimber Kable internal wiring. The Cary Direct price is $6746.00 without the options. SkyFi has stellar feedback and lots of sale...
whats the very best sounding cables for realistic money
Just pointing out this is a 3 1/2 year old thread. No doubt the OP has made his decision.
AUDIOVECTOR SPEAKERS
I carried AudioVector speakers when I was in the business from the mid 80's - mid 90's. They are excellent speakers, solid performance, great build quality and work fine with tube gear & solid state.
Top down or bottom up? Just asking...
Actually I like both at the same time ... ;-)
Help, I do not want to make an Ayre, What the heck?
Just connect your speaker cables from the + & - binding posts of the amp to the + & - binding posts of the speakers. You are not using a speaker switch-box in that configuration so you can ignore those instructions.
