Good Suggestions for Tube Amps under 6k
@pindac The R8 with Tube Upgrades (If desired) and Pass KB1 Pre-Amp’ (If of Interest) should not drift to far over...   What about the design of the Wilsenton R8 amplifier would require someone to consider adding a Korg B1 preamp layer on top ...

@iopscrl ...Cary CAD 805 (there have been several versions of this classic design over the years). For some this is a benchmark Class A SET amp. Others believe it is not accurate to some degree. Listen and decide for yourself.   @iopscrl Speak...

@jchiappinelli Carlsbad2, Why do you keep mis-informing that Prima luna relies on printed circuit boards when they are clearly point-to-point hand wired? It’s one of their primary marketing pitches and clearly supported by photos of the insides ...
Good Suggestions for Tube Amps under 6k
@gregjacob ..."specifications of my Daedalus"   Got it, now I understand why others were suggesting an uplift looking at other amps. Yeah, you’re only gonna get so much out of that bone stock PL and your speakers. You're in SET Triode amp or ...

@gregjacob Daedalus custom-made speakers   Which model are they closest to from the Daedalus line? The reason I’m asking is wondering about the impedance of your speakers.   Mods, upgrades to PL400?  -  Was looking up your existing PL400 a...
AudioQuest vs Cardas XLR
@lollipopguild I noticed in an earlier comment you remarked on their burn-in. Can I ask how they are likely to change?   They relax and settle in after they've been uncoiled out of the box, rested in place plugged in, and there is a form of dis...

@gregjacob "...Although I could live with the Primaluna (about 5k), I am exploring other alternatives.  That's the gist of it."   It would be helpful, as others have brought it up, what part of the sound are you trying to change.  What makes y...
AudioQuest vs Cardas XLR
@lollipopguild Anyhow, this is now moot as I've ordered the Cygnus Good deal. Should be good to go.  I'm enjoying trying Cygnus with different components. Some times I interchange Cygnus with Clear Reflection. Both are nice for different reaso...
AudioQuest vs Cardas XLR
@lollipopguild Has anyone tried the more affordable Clear Sky model   Where are you finding "affordable" Clear Sky? And how affordable? Just checked a few different sites and sure enough those same cheap counterfeit Sky sets are listed for sa...
Speaker Recommendations: Corner Placement
As mentioned above, my local dealer has a similar room size and always runs Audio Note speakers on stands tight up to the walls right in the corners, as designed to be used this way. Heard it with SET 2A3, 45, 300B monos and 211 integrated. Was th...
Omega speakers -- mostly sold out, all the time?
@lou_setriodes "Only thing I’m not a fan of is that he changes designs all the time, so it seems."   May be an opportunity for thrifty-shoppers to buy the last version from someone eager jumping right back on the treadmill for the "latest-and-...

Rogue Audio. Reliability issues? Anyone?
@nickrobotron what was the bias reading the last time you checked, and how long ago was that?    Hey, it's a tube amp. Output tubes wear out and get replaced. I run KT120s in my tube monoblocks, and the new pricing is high right now, and for the...
Care to offer comparisons? Wilson, YG, Magico, Stenheim, Rockport, Audio Note
@hilde45 i.e. if you read over the Axpona report here on the other Agon thread, you might note that well known amplifiers and well known speakers that sound warm and good were paired up, and reportedly did not sound good for unconfirmed reasons ot...
Care to offer comparisons? Wilson, YG, Magico, Stenheim, Rockport, Audio Note
@audphile1 ...to tune it more towards warmth and musicality.   Yup. Some amp/speaker designers strive for this, and know how to, which I prefer. While others push for fast, transparent, hyper-detail which can be quite fatiguing.
