$6000 budget question
Harbeth SHL-5. It will work great with your integrated and has a full, big sound with well-balanced bass response. I also think the Totem Forest is worth looking at. The Totem Mani-2 is a very good speaker - a stand mount with excellent bass respo...
Hot Stamper - myth or reality?
The only one who sells Hot Stampers is Better Records. It's a name they coined and it doesn't exist anywhere else. They claim to do listening shootouts between numerous copies and they select the best-sounding copies to sell as Hot Stampers. They ...
Reviews of $10k plus ics, speaker wires, and pcs
I'm not sure that the top 1% gives 2 shites about high end audio. They're too busy having fun and getting laid. It's probably more of the poor saps that can't afford it that spend the time and energy reading about it and lusting after $10K ICs. Th...
Advantages of monoblocks
If you don't blast music, I might suggest you look for a lower-powered tube amp. I've heard the DaCapos with Shindo and it was a beautiful combination. However, I don't think you're getting anything like that with your budget. Maybe a Unison Simpl...

Is it possible for a record to be too loud?
Every cartridge has its tracking limits. Sometimes a record is just cut too hot for the cart to handle and it starts to mistrack. You can try raising the stylus force to the maximum. I have one direct-to-disc piano recording that causes some mistr...
spring loaded platform non-suspended turntable
I'm glad to see we have some serious audiophiles here.
Advantages of monoblocks
With a 4K budget, I seriously doubt you will find something better than you already have.
Arcam CD17 or Oppo BDP 103?
If it's really CD only, I would get the Arcam. No TV needed for setup and you can use one Arcam remote for the whole system. Plus, dedicated players are usually better than multi-format on CD replay.
Upgrade mat or platter on pro-ject debut carbon?
I would try a Herbies Mat. I put one on my old Music Hall and it was transformative. OTOH, it sucked on my Linn. Herbies offers money back, so there's minimal risk. The only thing is - the mat is tacky, so you can't pull the record off while it's ...
two way v. three way speakers
Petrayer - you are a very polite person.
Ever notice most audio magazine cover are white?
Maybe they're targeting a certain audience.
Tonearm Options for Basis 2800
You haven't received the tt yet? You posted back in January that you were having issues with the bass and then that the bass "rocks". Now you're saying you didn't get it yet. OK - no problem. My mistake.
How do you determine how much to spend on speakers
If you want to find something you will be happy with, search your soul and your bank account and ascertain the most you can responsibly spend. Then double it. That should come out about right, IMO.
Tonearm Options for Basis 2800
You just got this thing two months ago and you're changing the arm? IMO, you will have to spend a lot of money to best what you have. If you have to spend money, you would probably be better off upgrading something else. I know that Basis tables c...
