DEMAND DSD

If you haven't experienced well recorded Direct Stream Digital SACDs on a top-notch player, you are missing the boat!

"You can't collect a download. There's no physical attachment to a download; the sense of ownership is less clear. ... Surprisingly, our digital sales [SACDs] are doing just as well as our vinyl sales right now. Music Direct can hardly sell regular CDs at all—the customers just don't want regular CDs anymore." - Jim Davis (owner of Music Direct), Stereophile, October 2010 issue

Blu-ray is the future. It will expand the SACD window and just think, the reissues can be very profitable for the original owners.
Thanks for this discussion. I am beginning to love my CDs even more :-) I wish more non-classical music was available. Don't care for Blu-Ray as of now....but hey, who has been to the future yet?
Mytek has had a DSD DAC for sometime now. Often it's used with the Sonoma system.
"Doug Sax says he'd rather listen to HD formats available on Blu-Ray than to vinyl.
I'll go with Blu-Ray."

The problem with this logic (at least to folks on semi-limited budgets) is that each subsequent HD format requires a new player with (cross your fingers!) backwards compatibility for the media one purchased previously. Right now I only know of a very select few Blu-ray players that do SACD as well. Though I would be interested in finding out about others.

Meanwhile, for vinyl lovers, we can just keep buying records as they are released (and at the moment more vinyl is being released than SACD+DVD-A+Blu-ray+High Res PCM downloads).

The one downer for vinyl lovers? IF they are classical lovers too... SACD trumps all else (except for RBCD) in the classical genre. It is the only reason I keep an SACD player around (and after picking up a few Blu-ray-based releases, I see a future there too).

If I didn't care for classical I wouldn't need to look at another HD format again.
