Lucinda Williams live

A blistering live performance last night. One of the best live shows I've ever seen and the sound was great. Loud but not so loud I felt the need for hearing protection.

She stopped the band in the middle of the second song because she didn't like the mix - too much bass. Later in the show she played that song again so we'd get our "money's worth".

i've seen her live a bunch of times and while i think she's a reluctant performer (too insular, a little stiff, doesn't really engage with the audience), her bands are always great and she always rocks--i especially like that she'll contort and stretch out her tunes, rather than just copy the album versions. her songs may only be a couple of chords, but they're damn good. arguably, she's the greatest female rocker--not just aping her male peers, but doing it her way, with that tough and tender thing going on.
I saw her a few years ago - fantastic! It was interesting that she had her lyrics and music in a binder right in front of her that she referred to often. As well, she bent her knees and swayed almost continuously - she either has some back issues or will be developing some ... wonderful songwriter.
Still uses the songbook on a musical stand - as do all the band members. I was suprised at how hard she rocked. The lead guitar player was a monster - seemed like he was 7 feet tall!
