Remote pc operation?

Using HP touch smart 600 desk top to remotely operate my quiet music server. Both are using windows 7. I am able to remotely operate the server, except only to hear on the HP desk top. I am unable to use the HP as a remote control and have the sound come from my sound system. I am now using team viewer to acomplish this task. I would prefer to use the windows remote. Windows allows the use of the entire screen. Team view does not. Anyone out there no how to accomplish this through windows? thanks
