Are there any current production great speakers using AMT tweeters?
Back in the day, I had fallen in love with the ESS Heil AMT speakers, which were always too large and too expensive. Now that I am looking for a new speaker, I am wondering if there are any current high end monitors that use these tweeters? Or have good ribbons made the AMT tweeters less desirable?
My budget is in the $5k to $15k range, new or used, so don’t tell me about some of the $1k speakers that I know are out there, no matter how good they might be.
Stand mount is preferable, but a floor standing with a small footprint might be workable in my smallish room.
They have a "social media" site listed. I suggest you try there. The specs on Heil AMTs are fairly well documented if you search the net, though you may find some conflicting statements. Efficiency is very high (>97 dB) and the impedance is just under 4 ohms and very flat across the band. They are current hungry and not crazy about tubes. They always sell out on their sales and waiting is common, but eventually they do deliver. |

OP here. kind of repeating what I posted a few days ago: I appreciate all the suggestions. Many are floor standers, which won’t really work in my smallish room. And several are (pardon my shallowness) well, quite ugly such that I could not live with them, let alone the WAF. But this does leave me with a handful of candidates. So I need to attempt to find dealers and/or trade shows to listen to them. Unfortunately, this eliminates some of the International brands without a US presence, making them difficult to audition. And yes, many do offer ship to your home trials, but, when making a list, they fall below the ones I can actually hear at a store/show. Thanks to everyone. |
