Bookshelf speaker recommendations

First recommendation, don't put them on a bookshelf.  Place them on a stand out away from the wall, unless specifically designed for wall placement.

I have the Nola Boxer bookshelf speakers at a cabin. We have been very happy with them. I picked up a REL subwoofer on sale to add to the system and it was a nice addition.

At $1000  I also agree used is the way to go.   

Don't set a hard budget of $1k.   There are some real strong values out there between $1k and $1200
