Qobuz still messed up

Takes forever to load upon start up and then stops, long pause, and then next song in playlist starts, or rather stutters, stops and the process is repeated. Pretty sure it's Qobuz and not Roon since it happens with both Roon and MConnect. Pity.

Since I switched to TIDAL, someone asked whether I felt it sounded flatter and quieter than Qobuz. Initially, I did have that impression and wondered why.

Later, I realized that TIDAL has a Normalize Volume option enabled by default. If you're comparing TIDAL with Qobuz, you should turn it off (Settings → Audio & Playback → Normalize Volume → Off).

For some reason, TIDAL does sound flatter with Normalize Volume enabled, even when the playback volume is matched. After doing some research, I found that TIDAL uses its own loudness normalization system rather than standard ReplayGain tags. ReplayGain simply adjusts playback gain and does not alter the audio signal itself, whereas TIDAL's normalization appears to involve additional processing that many listeners perceive as reducing dynamics. To get the best possible sound quality from TIDAL, I recommend turning Normalize Volume off.

I also found that TIDAL Connect (TC) sounds better than playing TIDAL through the Volumio app. Interestingly, I found the opposite to be true with Qobuz: playing Qobuz through the Volumio app sounds better than using Qobuz Connect (QC).

shouldn't a service be tested and proven to work before it is even on the market?

Yeah, Americans being ripped off by those sneaky French. What's guvment doing?

1. On my 1st rig system where the streamer is the Rivoplus run on Volumio

TC » QVolumio > QC > TVolumio, where QVolumio = Qobuz run on Volumio and TVolumio = Tidal run on Volumio

Quite interestingly, TVolumio is noticeably rounded and less dynamic for some reason.  Fortunately, I could continue enjoying good SQ using TC as I did with QVolumio that I will part with in 2 months.

2. On my 2nd rig system where the streamer is Innuos Zen 3 run on Sense app,

QSense » QC.  I couldn't detect any meaningful difference. I also haven't compared Tidal Connect/TSense with Qobuz counterparts extensively yet, so it's too early to draw any conclusions.
