McIntosh Double Box?

Hello,

I've just inherited a C2700. It has the double box.  I need to load it in my car and drive cross country. The larger, 2nd shipping box is HUGE!  If the I keep the item in the original box, will that be good enough to sell and ship it?  I really don't have room for the larger box and just trying to figure how important it is.  I'm in a small town with no resale options here.

Thanks!!Pam

Yup...keep everything!  Damn squirrels ate my box for my C220, and I had to buy a new double box to ship it in.  Not cheap!!

Just got a mcintosh amp shipped to me ups broke the whole front glass.there is a reason they double boxed.  Luxman, michi, and many others do it on their big monoblocks. You could always cut the box and fold if flat, fiber tape is a good thing.enjoy the trip and try not to drive too late at night

Hi , May I ask an off topic question please. My friend has this preamp paired with the Big Mac SS monos powering some big B&W’s. As I’m a tube roller but with zero experience with Mac, have any of you rolled the tubes in this particular unit ? He does not have a TT, but streams and spins CD’s. I went over to listen and he asked me about tube rolling. FWIT he loves the sound of this combo with the Diamond tweeters , but I thought it to be a bit bright. Thanks , Mike B.

I have heard in the past that getting remuneration from shipper such as UPS and FedEx can be like pulling teeth, and that USPS, unbelievably, is better.  Since you insure your parcel for a stated amount, is this a big deal or not?  Let's say you are mailing a paperback book to someone and insure it for $1000.  Does that work?  I'd be interested to hear from someone who's shipped an expensive piece of gear, labelled "electronics" or something and experienced damage or loss with one of these shippers. How has that turned out?  And yes, find a way to hang onto that big box.
