Skyanalog 3D Reference - MC Cartridge

The discovery of a latest release MC Cart' model from Skyanalog, caught my attention as I was familiarising myself with their models a few years past.

To see how the company has advanced is quite pleasing, and the evidence that the product is available with parts used, that when equivalent parts are seen used on other brands' carts costing nearly twice as much, does capture attention.

The Diamond used as the Stylus and Cantilever is a known method, but Diamond also used as a coil former is certainly not as common a method, possibly even unique.

For Anyone not too confident in the Brand name Skyanalog, possibly because the current brand's name has a history in the marketplace since 2019, hence their not being an exposed brand like a selection of competitors, there is a lot of experience gained in producing Cart's.

Prior to 2019, the company, in its pre-Skyanalog guise, had a 20-year history and had evolved to become successful as an OEM for other brands with a market that stretched throughout the globe.

The company's Ref Model produced in 2023 has won over reviewers comfortably, leaving the summary offered, that will suggest the Cart' is comfortable as a competitor to much more expensive Cart models. To date, I have no recollection of Diamond being referred to for having attractive heat-dissipating properties. The usual info discovered for diamond is the rigidity and stiffness compared to other cantilever materials. Managing heat is a major consideration in all audio devices; it does not typically extend to a Phono Cartridge, unless warm-up time is the subject.

Private Label Success: Before entering the market under its own moniker, the company spent two decades quietly operating as an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) for major global brands in Germany, Japan, and North America.

Massive Output: Over its 25-year history, Skyanalog has produced more than 50,000 cartridges spanning over 50 individual models for its international clients.

To get to a level of production when creating one's own designed products across six years is quite a feat when the 3D Ref Model is to be considered.

In recent times, new rubber compounds are to be utilised for dampers, and the usual suspension system typical to MC Cart's is also being developed through R&D to produce a new design. To learn this is very appealing, as the materials and design for those materials used in this interface within the MC Cart' is the point of mechanical energy to electrical energy transfer. It is the foot making contact with the ground, changing from a stationary position to creating a directional movement. It is the tech developed at this interface, being an important reason to me, that influences my leaning towards brands that continue their research in this area. I am a firm believer of - No Hoof - No Horse.

:53- "heat dissipation matters"

1:23-" It's essentially destroying the vinyl"

Sure, the physical act of a stylus against the groove is causing heat....but SERIOUSLY?

It's not going over the same groove continuously/repeatedly 10000X!

Those statements will induce A.N. among some here😂🤣

I have no doubt the company is competent, being an OEM.

The cart probably sounds great, offering unique/uber priced cart innovation at a "reasonable" price.

The pressure of a stylus in a vinyl LP groove exerts thousands of pounds per square inch, generating significant localised friction and heat. Estimates for the peak temperature at the point of contact vary, ranging from minor increases of a few degrees up to staggering spikes of 150°C to 240°C.

Despite localised temperatures potentially approaching the softening point of vinyl, the heat dissipates instantly through the record mass and the highly thermally conductive diamond tip, preventing permanent melting of the Vinyl modulus.

Loss of modulus form caused by the Vinyl melting will result in damaged Vinyl and adulterated Source Data.

It is no secret that there are vinyl LPs that are a very, very high purchase price. Having further advantageous replay conditions is most likely to have an appeal to users of Albums that have such high value. Why not to the owner/user of lesser value vinyl albums as well, who considers an album to be replayed using Cart's off approx' $10K in value.
