Subwoofers - crazy upgrade!

I can enthusiastically recommend the Audio kinesis swarm. I’ve been using it for the past five or six years and it does brilliantly with the Dayton SA 1000 amp. I bought a second amp to have stereo. You can’t go wrong for the money. I posted a link to thread above that gives my impression and some data for the impact four subwoofers have

Subs rock...glad you found them useful.

I implemented two Martin Logan Dynamo 10 subs in my main system (Paradigm Persona 3F speakers).  I specifically wanted their built-in Anthem Room Correction (ARC) and the remote app.

Between those two capabiities and using a UMIK-1 and REW,  I’ve gotten great results in my small-med room with the subs both leveling the lower end and providing a very nice lower end extension.  (60Hz low pass).

I may splurge for the Paradigm XR11 subs down the line, but no hurry, as these little M-L's are working nicely.

I also use two SVS subs in my a/v system which has an Anthem MRX controlling them (and all channels) with ARC with great results in that room, as well.

The corner placement is also a good location. I ended up moving mine out about 12". An added benifit is running the bottom sub at 40hz and the upper sub HIGHER at around 60hz to gain midbass. They MUST be stacked as close as possible to couple properly. Feet removed. Thin rubber shelf liner between them.

• Double the amplifier power = +3 dB
  • If each subwoofer has its own amplifier producing the same output as before, you've doubled the acoustic power.
  • Doubling power gives a 3 dB increase.
• Double the cone area = +3 dB
  • The cones are moving together in phase.
  • The effective radiating area doubles, so they move twice as much air.
  • That produces another 3 dB.

GET THREE MORE AND ELIMINATE STANDING WAVES.

In small rooms, does everyone still recommend subs with full-range speakers?

The definition of 'small' is an important detail. It's probably not recommended because you might have to tune it to sub-optimal levels for the money, but it's 100% possible. Room calibrated flat bass should not be an issue assuming the software can make it flat. Isolation feet will definitely help with too much bass in a small space.
