Best practices to clean the binding posts on your speakers and amps?

I think isopropyl alcohol makes sense. I do remember many years ago, someone suggesting to simply pull the banana interconnects out of a speaker’s inputs and then plug them back in again. The same was suggested for cleaning the inputs and outputs on preamplifiers and power amplifiers.

I wish that I could remember who suggested this method of cleaning the inputs and  outputs of audio gear, but  it was many years ago.

Back in the day, that was a common explanation for why cables sounded different.

Over the years, I have used both Caig Deoxit and Stabilant 22 ($).

Both clean well, and Stabilant 22 is a conductive polymer, so in theory, I have better conductance.

 To this day I’ve never used any type of cleaner for my interconnects

or speaker cable and IME they sound fine. 👍

I’ve only cleaned terminals on used equipment and only if there is obvious corrosion or shorting. Deoxit and a microfiber cloth have been sufficient. I have used Deoxit and the “push pull” method on internal wire harnesses and cartridge/headshell pins.
