A question about Veritas cables

I've read a lot of good things about Veritas cables, and have one of their power cables in my system which seems to perform quite well. Now I'm interested in a pair of their Argentium X XLRs to connect my Denafrips Pontus 15th DAC to my Modwright KWI 200 integrated. I'm currently using a pair of Audience AU24 SE XLRs and I'm pretty happy with them. They sound quite musical and present good detail and imaging. To me their most compelling quality is the sense of composure they impart to the music, that is, how everything seems well balanced controlled.

What I'm hoping to achieve with a different set of cables is a slight sharpening of the detail, but not at the expense of fullness and all-around musicality. For example, I tried out a pair of Cerious Technologies (graphene) XLRs a couple of years ago, but I thought those were a bit bright and not as pleasing to my ears as the Audience cables.

Veritas uses silver conductors, and this gives me some cause for concern, as my pervious experiences with cables that contained silver were not very pleasing. Bright, slightly brittle, and in some instances, downright shrill.

I have some budget constraints, which is why I was looking at the reasonably priced cables from Veritas. I can't see spending on cables whose price would be out of proportion to the value of the components they're connecting. Probably wouldn't hear the difference.

Would love to hear opinions from Argentium owners--would this be a worthwhile experiment, or should I just stay put?

Thanks for the responses so far. There’s some very helpful information here, and I read the (okay, slightly controversial) Veritas response quoted by lanx0003 with great interest. The only way to really answer this question is to try a pair of these now- discontinued Argentium X’s myself. Veritas has a stock of these cables that they took in as returns or demos, so I ordered a pair. They’ll be here pretty soon and I look forward to hearing them in my system. I’ll certainly post my impressions when I’ve had a chance to assess them.

Smart move, that's really the only way to be really sure. With any audio equipment really.

I don't think the Argentum series is discontinued though. It was the top model until the Ultima came out. Now it's in the middle of the line. Even though I moved up to Ultima and love it, the Argentums are probably the best value for dollar spent.

Argentum definitely not discontinued.  Just that they have a bunch in great shape that they took back in their upgrade/trade-in program and they sell them at a nice discount. (I just took advantage of the trade in program myself and am swapping my Argentum XLRs (and a bunch of other Veritas cables i no longer have use for (e.g., USBs and RCA Coax)) for Ultima XLRs in my 2 principal systems.)
