Computer audio vs outboard DAC for Windows 11
Should have mentioned: this isn't my principal music system. That's in another room and (I flatter myself) another league. Just want to optimize  the sound for those tasks we use the computer for.
Underwood Hi Fi ok?
I've bought a few things from Walter and was very impressed by the personal attention he gave his customers. I visited the site just now and it's announcing an upcoming liquidation sale. Very alarming.
A question about Veritas cables
Update: the Veritas Argentium X XLRs have been in my system now for some days and I’ve put a good few hours on them. If they were new instead of used I’d probably need at least a week or two of further listening, but even as it is (and I’m not ent...
A question about Veritas cables
I guess I was going by the Veritas site’s indication that new RCA and XLR Argentium cables are sold out. They do have a stock of used ones, however. Used is even better IMO because it saves me a lot of burn-in time.
A question about Veritas cables
Thanks for the responses so far. There’s some very helpful information here, and I read the (okay, slightly controversial) Veritas response quoted by lanx0003 with great interest. The only way to really answer this question is to try a pair of the...
Adding a power strip to power conditioner--advisable?
Thanks once again for the input and suggestions. While I'm still thinking about a power conditioner upgrade, I decided to simply add another one to the system, plugged into the other half of the duplex wall outlet. Found a 6-socket unit from ADD P...
Adding a power strip to power conditioner--advisable?
Thanks for the responses. A little more information, which may be helpful: the Furman conditioner is plugged into a dedicated circuit, using one half of the duplex wall socket. Taking dekay's lead, I'm thinking the best solution here would be to s...
Thinking about the Shanling ET3 — any thoughts?
Got my ET3 last May, so I’ve had a good few months to assess it. As I described in my post of Jan. 2 (q.v.), the transport has been a significant upgrade over my previous spinner, a (no longer made) Cambridge Audio CXU, which is actually, at heart...
The new Shanling CT90
myphoebe16 I hope you'll share your impressions once you've had a chance to listen. I look forward to seeing what you think.
??? Where Does "High End" Start ???
Interesting thread. I personally think high-end is an eye-of-the-beholder assessment. How many dollars does it take to reach nirvana? Probably as many opinions as there are people to form them. I'm reminded of something the late Sir Kenneth Clark ...
Looking for a more up-to-date streamer
zlone, it's a reasonably good cable--Cardas Parsec. I'm pretty happy with the sound I'm getting with this setup. It looks like if I switch to an Aurender streamer, USB would be my only choice.
Looking for a more up-to-date streamer
Oops--apologies to hjdca. I should have looked back through this thread again before my previous post. The Volumio Rivo+ was indeed mentioned here and I appreciate your sharing your opinion.
Looking for a more up-to-date streamer
I don't think it's been mentioned in any of the recommendations here, but I'm now quite curious about the Volumio Rivo or Rivo Plus digital transport, which I saw reviewed on YouTube recently by A British Audiophile. It's well within my budget, ev...
Recommendations for a new subwoofer?
Here’s the update I promised in my previous post: after living for a few weeks with my new ELAC Varro ES500 which I think has probably had enough time to find its voice, I’m liking it quite a lot. My first impressions were, as I said, that it was ...
Looking for a more up-to-date streamer
Reading this and some other threads on the subject of streamers/servers, I’m now rethinking my aspiration for a USB output, as there is a body of opinion that this connection is inherently more noisy than some others. I believe, however, it can ac...
