Mola Mola Kula in SF Bay area

Hi there

I'm in the market for a new streaming integrated and the Mola Mola Kula with the Tambaqui DAC gets rave reviews.  If anyone in the SF Bay area has this unit, would they be willing to offer me a 30m listening session at their home?  There is no local dealer unfortunately.

The dealer in New Jersey will likely send you a Mola Mola to do a home demo. I was looking at the Mola Mola before Covid, and he was going to send me the DAC for a home demo (in California).

I am not sure if the Kula has an optional DAC board,

Mola Mola

but if it did then I would get that in the Kula and forego the Tambaqui. The Tambaqui DAC is kind of old now. It was actually conceived around 2006 and originated in the Makua preamp. It was then made into the external Tambaqui DAC. I read an interview with Bruno P on ASR where he mentioned how the Mola Mola DAC tech was first conceived by him.

BTW - Ethernet streaming on DACs are usually not the very best option. For example, the Meitner MA3i DAC has an Ethernet streamer, which is very good, however my 10-year-old Sonore OpticalrRendu streamer into USB was better, with a cleaner sound. The new OpticalrRendu is supposed to be much better than my old unit. The Meitner MA3i DAC is a terrific DAC easily in the class of the Tambaqui.

The Music Room also carries the full line of Mola Mola gear, and they've got a 30-day return policy; just ship it back with a small restocking fee if you don't like it.

we would recommend you consider an avm 5,3 evolution 5.3  as well.

https://avm.audio/masterpieces/evolution-as-5-3-2/

the avm evolution is an incredible integrated amplifier with an unmatched feature set:

it has a superb built in dac based on 4 ESS 9038pro chips and streamer spotify Tidal and Quobuz conect as well as roon and airplay.

it has a world class phono stage.

it has a built in parametric EQ loudness and tone controls

it has digital inputs and outputs analog inputs and outputs and has Bluetooth and arc for connecting to a tv as well

he evolution has a unique tube  line stage with custom engineered tubes rated for 20,000 hours coupled to a proprietary pascal amplifier stage.

the avm company was a partner with pascal in developing their technology for their best amplifiers and so you are looking at an integrated amplifier for 14,000. which  competes with the $60,000 AVIK a880 which uses a similar module.

the evolution 5.3s  sound is to die for, smooth, liquid midrange, a huge  holographic sound stage clean punchy bass, great detail without any hardness,   and it is whisper quiet.

if you are looking for an end-game integrated amplifier ,that competes with 25k reference, units but for considerably less money, look at the avm ovation 5,3 its sound quality. and feature set is unmatched and its 180 watt power output 8 ohm and 350watts into 4 ohms  is enough to drive any loudspeaker perfectly, a true end game integrated.

Dave and Troy "it has a superb built in dac based on 4 ESS 9038pro chips". This would turn me off completely. I really dislike the shrill midrange of ESS chips, particularly on female voices.

Layman ess chips can sound fantastic it depends on how a dac is implemented and the amp uses a tube preamp it is anything but shrill
