HiFi Kit Building- have you ever built any hifi gear?

Way back, building a hifi component from a kit was an available alternative from many manufacturers; today, not do much.

Have you ever built any gear from a kit? I’ve built two Bottlehead headphone amplifiers.

I built my source, a computer, which I have in the past spent a good deal of time on, it put all of the big names to shame, the only thing I liked more was a Pierre Lurne Audiomeca II, which is the most musical thing I have had the pleasure of listening to

I have a completely unbuilt digital FM tuner from Heathkit available here for sale. I would build it but just do not have the time.

Another Hafler builder here.  I built both the pre-amp and the amp in 1978 or 1979.

I think I saved $100 on each by doing it myself.

Ah, the good old days!

Way back when I was about 16 years old I built a pair of speakers. I was flat broke and couldn’t buy any so I figured how hard can it be?  I found a cheap set of coaxial drivers, about 10” I think. My dad had a sheet of 3/4” MDF in the garage that he let me have. I cobble together some basic boxes using basic tools, Elmer’s white glue, and screws. Put the drivers in and hooked them up to the cheap receiver I had. Man they were bad!  Unbelievably bad. That’s when I decided to leave it to the professionals and got my first “real” job and started saving my money. As the jobs got better, so did my gear. And here I am.
