Whats the right way to change horses

Never had the bucks to do real audiophile, but put together a nice Hegel H160 , Rel T9i and SF Concerto system that really worked for me for a few years (mostly single artist listening). Now at 70, I'm parting that out on Facebook MP and looking to move to some simple powered speakers. But thinking, wouldn't it be nice if you could just trade-in you're past gear for a new model, like cars. 

I see the same thing with guitars, moving from steel sting acoustic Gibson guitars to nylon string Classical guitars, just no bridge there,,, not complaining, but seems like there should be a business that does that for you, so you don't have to.

TMR is great, though some people don't seem to know anything about how they do business. Nobody is screwing anybody unless they hold a gun to yer head and demand you buy from or sell to them. I'm always happy to do business with them.

Another thumbs up for TMR; they are very transparent and clear about what they will trade for and what they won’t, and as @larsman said, they don’t force you to do business with them. No doubt you will clear more cash if you sell yourself and then take the cash and go shopping — and buying used from TMR is definitely a nice experience with 30 day trial period and some sort of (shortish) warranty too, but the ease and certainty of dealing with TMR is definitely worth something.  The exact value of that trade off is likely going to different for each person.  But I have liked knowing i can offer them a stack of gear for something new i want and they tell me, usually within 24 hours what the costs will be and make shipping super easy.  And they do give you a decent break (not huge by any means) when you trade your used gear for new stuff.
