Bookshelf speaker rec

Hi everyone.

I am in the market for a pair of speakers, bookshelf, that have a good amount of low end. Will be using them with a Naim CD player > Conrad Johnson pre > B&K power amp.

Music is everything from Metallica and AC/DC to Beethoven and John Williams.

Room is 22x19 with a vaulted ceiling that goes from 9ft to 13 ft. I will have some carpet, and plan on putting up some acoustic panels, to, at the very least, cut down on the ambiance/reflections.

Wanted to get some suggs on what to listen to when I go to my local store(s). I would like to keep the pair under $5k if possible.

Thanks in advance.

Yea you can get brand new Forte 4’s for less than $5k. Emotiva has some great options as well. I’d likely have the Forte’s if I had the money to comfortably afford them. I listen to mostly rock of all kinds of genres, and Klipsch has never disappointed me. I had some Towers a few years ago, powered towers, they were wicked especially after I added a sub. I’d still have that system and added to it had I not moved into a condo building down in Miami. Bookshelves serve me well here with a sub. I can’t really crank it up very often unfortunately. I went with Emotiva and love them!

Maggies, schmaggies! (LOL, but only partially not serious)

Look at the Maggie killer: Eminent Technology LFT-8C. Beats every Maggie up to and through the 3.7i - better, more articulate and deeper actual base. Coherence cross the bass to midrange transition. Far purer and lower distortion mids, and same for highs (until you get to the 3.7i with actual real ribbon tweeter). Also more dynamic, being push-pull instead of single-ended.

OP’s room is similar in size to mine, which is 25.5 x 15.5.

I agree with everyone else, stand-mounted would get sonically LOST in that room

In that $5K +/- range, you won’t do better than BMR Towers, ET LFT-8’s, or Ascend’s top offering WITH the Raal tweeter.

Really boils down to to “are you a planar guy, or not”? I’ve been a planar guy ever since moved on from Vandersteen’s to (at first) Maggies, and then (rapidly) to Apogee Duetta Signatures.

Disclosure: I have a listening salon where folks can listen to things like the ET’s as well as the full Schiit range. So, yeah, stake in the game (potentially).
