When the AGD woman at CAF that my Triode Lab FFx Parallel 45s would not even compare to to their amps (without knowing anything about my amps) I had to just walk out (:
AGD Duet Monoblocks
Considering replacing my Gryphon Diablo 120 integrated with AGD Duet monoblocks, using my Linn Selekt DSM (with Organik DAC and Utopik power supply upgrade) as a preamp direct to the monoblocks, paired with Vivid Audio Giya G1 Series One speakers. Objectives are clarity, microdetail, and imaging. Would be interested in comments from any AGD owners, especially AGD Duets owners. Thanks!
@glenmschneider was she right tho? |
they are for different users. I have large horns with 104 db sensitivity. My monoblocks are phenomenal; reference amp for some large horn reviewers. But they would not drive the massive size stand mount speakers in that room. Can’t remember the specific speakers now. And the room sounded great. No question about that. It was the tone that came off like it was impossible for anything regardless of cost for anything to compare that I objected to and at that point it just didn’t matter which sounded better. |
@glenmschneider That was most likely Alberto's wife who is an enthusiastic AGD supporter |
For a brief time I was doing reviews for TAS’s YouTube channel, before starting my own. I did review the AGD Audions vs. my BHK300 hybrid amps. I kind of wish I could combine the sound of the two amps. On the TAD’s I was using at the time, the AGD’s were more resolving in the top end, but the BHK’s fleshed out the body/lower end more. unfortunately I never got to hear the Audion on my Prodigio electrostats, but Prodigio (rebranded from Popori) has displayed at audio shows with both AGD and Atma-sphere class D (both are Ganfets) I did get to hear the atma-sphere on the prodigio at the show and thought they were a great match. that being said, I’m now jonesing to try PS Audio’s soon to be released monoblocks which run the first 30 watts in pure class A, before going to A/B. There are stereo amps that have less class A power, and an even bigger one with 50 watts. |
