Do you buy new, used or new or used gear?

I know some folks that will only buy new gear, and others that will only buy used gear, and of course, those that will sometimes buy new and sometimes buy used gear. Where are you on this spectrum?

Personally, about 1/2 my main system consists of gear that was bought used (or store demo), and none was the worse for it.

Good Logic with your choices…… l believe in the same principles. Used = potentially increased spending power, and higher quality electronics for the same outlay. What’s not to like about that?

I always try to seek out “nearly new” pre-loved second hand gear, as to me it makes the most sense. Open box sales are as close as new needs to be, and directly from a dealer with full warranty minus the afore mentioned “discounts”, what’s not to like about that too? Even better, is buying gear hardly used, at a fraction of the retail price, from a personally known audiophile with upgradeitus. I do always drawn a line with used cartridges, unless l know for sure their history.

Mostly used. I don’t think gear changes than much except when it may benefit from newer electronics, such as DAC, DSP, HT receiver that implements new standards or Class D amp. There rest, esp tube gear, is pretty much the same as it was 20 years ago.

@zavato Over  years I have been buying both, used and new stuff. And quite recently I bought a few Chinese clones which cost less than used stuff with which I am satisfied quite a lot.
