Shunyata Venon V16 or Furman Elite 20pfi

Hi, All,

So I currently have a Furman Elite 20pfi with everything in my rig (system does double duty for music and HT) plugged into it. Including the Puron AC Power Conditioner (this thing absolutely lowered the noise floor when I plugged it into the Furman). I took advantage of the 40% off sale and bought the V16. Received it yesterday. However I see that the V16 does not offer surge protection whereas the Furman does. I did not realize this. I should mention I have my system on a dedicated 20Amp circuit and I also have a whole house surge protector. Is this a deal breaker, should I just return the Shunyata? I did read, almost unanimously, that the V16 will improve the sound and lower cross interference by isolating.

Thoughts? And should the V16 not offering surge protection be a deal breaker?

Thanks in advance...,

Thanks @moto_man. I’m not sure exactly how mine is wired? It is right next to my breaker box. It has 2 lights that are green. I know if they change color that means something’s bad. I’m on 7 years now with this protector but both lights remain green which I’m taking to mean it’s still doing its thing.

Would love to move to the Everest, but 2 major obstacles, cost-yes even on discounts it’s out of my reach, but I also need 12 outlets for all of my gear. That’s one of the main reasons the V16 has always caught my eye…Still no word on my Magic Power cable. Hoping this week, I should have ordered it sooner. Plus switching out the Furman for V16 is definitely a weekend project and not something I’m going to take on after a work day. There’s just no room for maneuvering around my rig. So any type of tweak or change requires time, focus, patience, and acrobatics😂🤦🏼‍♂️…

@kingbr look up the manufacturer warranty.  Mine has an insurance policy that will actually cover damage if the surge protector fails (and is wired correctly).  If your surge protector only has a five year warranty, replace it.   I am not sure that the lights will change if its old, but why take a chance?

Re the Everest, I got mine used with a Sigma power cable.  I forget what I paid.  But I have outlets to spare, since the only things that I have plugged in are my amp, DAC, pre and sub.  I also use the grounding system in the Everest, although I am not really sure that sonically there is any difference at all, but it was there, so why not use it?

@zlone @jrareform @moto_man   Finally got my Magic Power cord (beautiful cord, so well made and fits like an absolute glove) and just last night switched the Furman over to the Shunyata. Boy that in itself was an adventure. Damn if I didn’t have to really use some serious force to get every damn one of  those plugs into the V16. I was nervous as each one took some serious force and I'm always concerned as I tend to have a heavy hand to begin with. Certainly don’t ever have to worry about them coming out - LOLsurprise! Had a couple hiccups but now finally up and running. I have my amp plugged directly into the wall for now. I will try it into the V16 at some point just to see/hear...I have not yet sat down for a session, I’ll be doing that tonight. Super excited and anxiouscheeky! Letting the system play all day while I’m at work so by the time I get home it should have about 14 hours of burn in. I’ll follow up after tonight’s session...

Thanks again for taking the time to respond and for all of the advice/support! I’m wicked excited!

I am excited for you, I hope the results are positive. Good plan letting it play all day before you listen.

@kingbr super exciting!  Keep us posted!!  The power cable may need some burn in to sound it's best!  And yes the plugs are serious clampers lol
