B&W 800 D2

For those of you still listening to these speakers, I assume you like them as you’ve chosen not to upgrade over the years. Or perhaps you purchased them used more recently. In any event, I’d love to hear any feedback you wish to share about these speakers (good or bad) if you own or have owned them at some point in the past. I have a potential opportunity to purchase a pair in good condition at a fair price and am curious.

I never got a chance to hear the 800D2 but I remember the 802D having stronger bass tuning than the more current D3/D4 and probably D5. I do however think the new mids are better with less distortion.

@bartsw I assume that you meant that current manufacturing today still install high quality parts, or are you referring to your understanding of past manufactured speakers? I agree that the original designers were concerned with top sonic and use the best parts, not so sure if current ownership still adheres to Sonics vs cost cutting which happens often when sold to another company who lowers cost (in this case parts) to increase profit.

@kennyc  all versions meaning 800 D1-D5 and 700 CM(S1)-S3. Prices appear to have increased over 30% from each versions to reflect cost of design changes, cost rise and parts quality.

@bartsw Prices appear to have increased…

Prices have increased everywhere. ☹️ I’m fortunate that my audio chain are mostly done. Rough for many on a fixed income.

prices are going down, inflation is down, unemployment is down, there are no wars and everyone is buying brand new Cadillacs
