1st Impression, Join the Forum?

I watched this forum for a while before I decided to join in 2019. I'm glad I did, however recently, if watching, I wonder if someone would enthusiastically join.

This was based on my initial experiences when joining the Sony Cybershot Forum on Digital Photography Review (dprreview.com) back in 2012.

Sony had announced a new game-changing camera, and I was among many wanting to learn more before it became available.

After joining, I found there were some nasty people, and many members who wasted their and everybody's time baiting and arguing, on and on. My 1st impression was not good, however, the coming camera (rx100m1 late 2012) made me stick around.

Thankfully, the nasty people went elsewhere, thus poor reactions lessened, and if someone joined after that, their 1st impression would be as it is now, one of the friendliest forums on the site. It has stayed very positive since around 2013.

Humor, I'm all for it, one mistake is to assume people 'get' my sense of humor, and I forget that English is not some members primary language.

I'm certainly no one's mom, morality police, but I would like to be proud of the forum.

@pindac you type eloquently. Agree with what you said, especially concerning portable audio where I think a good portion of future audiophiles are going in this somewhat unreachable market and hobby some of us take for granted.

As for this forum, it’s taught me a lot. I’m in my mid-40’s which is much younger than the average age (mid-60’s) of members which generally includes experience. I’ve never heard the term “fake audiophile” but I chuckle whenever I recite the term in my mind. All I know is that if you’re participating in an audio forum like Audiogon you’re probably an audiophile - whether you like it or not; whether you do or don’t become susceptible to the superficial sweetener that registers just as sweet in my mind :)

The forum is undeniably dominated by a few individuals. Especially where a selection of individuals are types who are stopped in seeking progress by their being influenced by their contentment.

Contentment: Is a comfort zone, a drive and the push to make ways forward become lost. Progress is waned; possibly for some forum members who regularly contribute, progress is non-existent, and reignition of ambition is not possible due to the sodden mindset.

When such individuals express contentment and become prolific in their activity on the Gon forum. It becomes quite clearly demonstrable that there is a shortcoming in the content supplied; the following is strong in being noticeable for its presence:
