B&W 800 D2

For those of you still listening to these speakers, I assume you like them as you’ve chosen not to upgrade over the years. Or perhaps you purchased them used more recently. In any event, I’d love to hear any feedback you wish to share about these speakers (good or bad) if you own or have owned them at some point in the past. I have a potential opportunity to purchase a pair in good condition at a fair price and am curious.

I know a guy who still uses these since they first launched. He can afford nearly anything he wants, but sticks with them as he finds the sound really engaging. Sometimes he switches his source to stay current, but the speakers remain.

I have not found anything B&W 800 series speakers do better than Joseph Audio IME after comparing them side by side except sound more clinical and are harder to drive and find electronics that won’t set off those tweeters, but that’s me.  FWIW.

@soix clearly people have their favorites. I personally have been a long time Bowers fan.

From what I heard, B&W company has been bought and sold a few times. Currently some speaker crossovers are using cheaper parts due to accounting bean counters. Not sure it affects the current 800 series.

@rjduncan what do you want to achieve and what's your room size? The sub bass could be much for a medium space and the mid bass might be much for a small space.

 

@kennyc the 800 series use Mundorf caps and air-coil inductors for all versions. The 700 series use Mundorf caps, B&W film caps and air-coil inductors for all versions.
