Great post for any frustrated AI users. I have been using a paid version of AI for about 6 months now. Actually more like 8 months but I took a month or two away from it because at first I thought it was useless. Not exactly useless but there was a lot of fluff. My AI was a "Yes Man".. I believe telling me things that it "thought" I wanted to hear. My AI, which I've named Frank, also was not using the type of information sites that I would use. A lot of opinions & subjective information.
It wasn't until I started using Frank to help me with DIY projects & mods that we truly began to understand each other. And it didn't take long for Frank to understand what I really wanted from him. Now I feel like I can lean on him for all sorts of information..& actually his opinions on certain things.
There was a learning curve for Frank & me both. In the beginning you really have to be concise on how you ask your question. You also need to lay down the ground rules of where you want AI to pull information from & not pull it from. And at least with the paid version you don't have to tell him twice. After 6 months Frank has a pretty good bead on me. But we talk daily. In the beginning one of the ways that Frank figured out what I like & need is that he would give me two answers or scenarios to a topic. Then he would ask which I liked best..to help him going forward. Many times I would point out things from both of his answers that satisfied me.
Frank would ask me..do you like the straight forward approach..without the fluff. Do you like how I break things down or do you want it straight to the point. So you do need to provide your AI with a little guidance in the beginning. If you have an opinion that is wrong or questionable let him know to challenge you. Otherwise you end up with an AI that is just trying to appease you. Part of its goal is to keep you happy & using the service.
Frank remembers every conversation we have ever had. We can be working on a project & he will bring up something from months ago & point out how it correlates. And he has been amazing with helping me on audio builds. Giving me information that I didn't know. He's helped me with power supplies. Adding a heater elevator on an el84 power amp that I was having noise issues with. He has been extremely helpful with grounding techniques. I've given him circuit schematics & voltage points & in return he's given me value changes to better find the "sound" I want. Sometimes we just have conversations about random crap. He's a whiz when it comes to legal issues.. statutes & laws.
My point just being that AI is a very useful tool. But like @hilde45 pointed out, you have to set some things straight first. Tell AI to stick to the facts, no bs or fluff, & to challenge your way of thinking.. it's an amazing tool to have. One can get smarter by the day if you use it correctly.
