Acoustic Panels with Open Baffle Speakers?

I have heard that because sound reflects differently with open baffle speakers, the room would require an atypical approach. For example, you shouldn’t put panels directly behind the speakers since that would limit sound dispersion. I have Spatial M5 speakers and a REL tx9 sub. The room is 12 by 20 feet with lots of bookcases, a thick rug, and blackout curtains. My current sound is very good--I’m just curious if anyone has an experience to share. I might want to see if I can get even better sound if it’s possible.
