@pjw81563,
This was the Donald Byrd stuff I was introduced to as a kid. It was basically radio FM friendly jazz/funk/soul hanging out at the park and riding music. With that big Larry and ’Fonce’ Mizell production sound. And as I got older, I later discovered Donald Byrd’s hard core jazz stuff. Incidentally, Donald Byrd’s son and I grew up together.
Donald Byrd • Black Byrd • 1973
Donald Byrd • Street Lady • 1973
Donald Byrd • Places And Spaces • 1975
Donald Byrd • Stepping Into Tomorrow • 1975
And here’s flautist Bobbi Humphrey – Bobbi Humphrey’s Best who was also produced by and with that big Mizell Brother’s production sound.
That Grant Green Alive! album is probably my favorite one of his!
@alexatpos,
Thank you for introducing me to ’Liquid Soul’! And that Grant green Funk in France album got by me as I’ve never heard it before! Again thanks! And Bobby Hutchison’s ’The Kicker’ from 1963 was just killing the game back then. Translation, it was a very good thing! It reminds me of a Kansas City Swing style of playing and rhythms.
About those Knickerbockers, I didn’t see the last game but I watched the entirety of that 29 point come from behind game win as I was glued to the tv....Alicia Keys - New York State of Mind - Empire State of Mind
