Vinyl Storage Options

I have a large vinyl collection that I would like to store in my dedicated music room.  I have around 700-1000 albums that I would like to store one level high.  Looking at some custom options that are running around $5,000 - $7,000.

Looking for others experiences in this regard.

Thanks.

Ikea.  My 3,000+ collection is in pieces I have bought over the years at Ikea - some of their cabinetry has 13" square sections that work well.

Bach to Mahler are in my living/music room, the rest through to Zemlinsky in my office.

There are separate shelves for Shaded Dogs and Archiv recordings.

I have made several attempts to actually catalog them but have given up. Now I browse when I am in the mood!

Oh well, I can't upload pictures with Firefox. My system pick shows my DIY cases. If you are even a bit handy I can provide the details.

Ikea Kallax works quite well for my collection of 5000+ LPs, and has for over a decade.

Mistake people make with Kallax is turning o its side because the want a higher versus wider stack, or such.

The shelves are made to sit and be strong the way they are made.

Turning on end jas no strength.

That's really a problem with the 4x4, 5x5, etc.

The 2x4 can be oriented either way without issue. I have three of them. Two are the "wrong" way and one is right side up. In ten years of use, fully laden, I've not had a single problem.

All those internet photos of collapsed Ikea shelf disasters are the large 4x4 and 5x5 that are oriented on the sides, rather than right side up. Basically, the long internal shelf supports need to be the horizontal ones, and the short ones vertical, to support them, so that the wooden pegs that secure them aren't bearing any load. For the 2x4 it doesn't matter as much, since there is only one level of them with pegs bearing loads.
