Vinyl Storage Options

I have a large vinyl collection that I would like to store in my dedicated music room.  I have around 700-1000 albums that I would like to store one level high.  Looking at some custom options that are running around $5,000 - $7,000.

Looking for others experiences in this regard.

Thanks.

Alphabetical, without the need to keep moving them around: I limit myself to 1 in/1 out, OR, even better 1 in/2 out and limited myself to 18 lf total (actually 17lf lps + 12 dividers/6/row). roughly 8 to an inch max, best to leave some space

2 rows 9 feet long at easy height, one just above, 1 just below standing eyeball height, no bending, no reaching,

I have alphabet dividers,

I installed 8lf of strip light overhead, close so you don’t make a shadow.

note: mine are hardwood library shelves I inherited with recessed metal tracks for thin adjustable dividers. I put them on top of the case’s shelves, and they are only 11" deep, so you can get them in/out more easily

One way to prevent sag is to limit the width to 30" wide case, so the shelf is only +/- 28" long

I much prefer record store style display and access of my collection. I use DIY shelf. See system under details.

However, this is a commercial product which looks great.

You’d need 2-3 units. They sell metal or wood versions in different sizes.

OP,

btw, this crowd, many have very large collections, I had 2500, inherited 4000, sold or gave away over 2000, and still weeding, I find I have a lot I play once and will never play again, which is why I say 1 in/ 2 out.

I had a carpenter make "built-ins" They work great, but I kept getting records, so I have need to augment the rackage to accommodate my acquisitiveness. I bought two sets of four of these Mapleshade racks:

I think they look great, and up to four shelves high, they are very sturdy.

I’ve had luck finding quality work workers on Etsy that will build affordable units to your specifications. Knowing my limits I was not going to build my own. You might want to look there as well as what’s been stated prior. I have one of the pieces included in my virtual system if interested.
