You may like the immediacy of certain horns: Avant-garde Duo, Acapella Arts La Campanella, Cessaro Wagner II, Tobian 10 Signature. Or maybe something with an AMT tweeter: Wolf Von Langa Ultimata. Or maybe combine AMT and horn: Viva Allegro.
$35000 to $40,000. speakers what would you buy and why?
I am contemplating purchasing my End game speakers. The ones that catch my eye are the Magico M3, Magico M project, Stenheim Alumine 5se, Rockport Cygnus and the Songs Faber Amati Homage G5. My system consists of An Aurender N20 feeding a MSB Technology Premier Dac with Premier powerbaye. Preamp duties are handles by An Audio Research Reference Anniversary and amplification is a pair of Lamm M 2.2 mono blocks. I currently have Magnepan 3.7i's. I love their transparency and inner detail but they do not play in the low registers. I do not want separate subs.... My room is mediums sized. I listen to mostly soft pop, classical and some light rock. I am trying to walk the thin line of tranparency vs musicality. I would enjoy some suggestions and some sound reasoning behind members choices in speakers. I do not want this to morph into a bashing thread. Please stay on topic.

Sorry I haven’t been able to read the whole thread. But for those $$ and your experience with Maggies, I would suggest you look at Sound Lab Electrostatics. I upgraded to a pair of G7-7Cs. You need the PX technology and bass focus. With solid bass extension to 30 Hz, I retired my Hsu subwoofer. They are also good sounding in my acoustically problematic room. My experience is that they need a lot of power, but it sounds like you have that covered. This is my last rig, without a doubt. |
Speakers are very "subjective"...I feel the most subjective part of the audio experaaince! What measures well, what is hyped, what some feel are endgame, might not suite you. It is the one component you need to go and audition...not briefly, but a sit down dedicated 2-4 hr session, then come back the next day for another 1-3 hr session...take notes. Try to get an apple-to-apple comparison with the same components as in your system or close to. I traveled to five different places...three long drives and two flights - made a weekend of each trip (my price point was only 2/3s of what you are looking at. Since then, I have attended several store promoted events (listen sessions & product introductions) ...an evening with these was noted as remarkable, even incredible. It helped they were paired with Goldmund electronics and top cables. If I win the lottery - their Coltrane series would be first on my top three list. OP, I’ve heard the Stenheim Alumine 5se and liked it, but it’s $70k new. I’m also looking at the same speaker decision with a similar range, my leanings are toward used Wilson or a larger Magico like S5 or S7.
