Beware: Magnum Dynalab are not "doing repairs, upgrades or service right now"!!

Just a note if you are considering buying a Magnum Dynalap liner. After buying a factory box from MD, sending them my tuner in August, I was told verbatim from the Operations Manager that they are not "doing repairs, upgrades or service right now".  Six months went by and below is a sample of the items they told me. I am at a loss that they accepted the return for service, keep it six months and then say we won't fix it. 

  • I will ship your unit back to you.  We can't solve you no power issue.
  • If he can't fix it, I am just going to replace yours with a new unit.
  • We are not doing repairs, upgrades or service right now,
  • This is one we said we would look at in house and it is marked resolved January 8th but not shipped yet.
  • Noted repair resolved "Cleaned the oxidized silver plated contacts in the switch cable inside the unit (inside the plug).
  • Retested."
  • Thanks for you most recent email from yesterday.  We will be looking at you MD90 the first ½ of January.
  • If you don't hear back from me by Friday, please do a follow up and we may need to look at another service option.
  • Hi William, we will have a better idea in a couple of weeks.
  • We are in the works on doing changes in manufacturing so we can not touch repairs for at least another 4 to 6 weeks.
  • It will be at least 6 weeks before we can start looking at this.  Please don't hesitate to reach out in 2 to 3 weeks for an update.

I love the tuners but be careful as it appears any investment would be a gamble... So odd for a company now owned by Bryson.

Well I order the new MD ST-3 indoor antenna sometime around Feb 2025, I received it in August 2025. They need to step it up if they want to match Amazon delivery.

 

The ST-3 seems like a real good antenna, I have 3 tuners, 2 ST-2 antennas, and now the ST-3.

I am testing out the ST-3 in my bedroom. The ST-2 did not pick up the great KCRW super clean. However, the ST-3 is perfect today. Maybe not so good tomorrow but it is working great today. Great weather today so that helps.

BTW - the ST-3 comes with a cable to connect the tuner to the antenna.

I enjoyed the MD 109 tuner for many years. The sound quality was remarkable. The tuning accuracy was excellent. I live in an area was strong analog signal and very FM Jazz and classical content. I was sad to salad but in the process I've discovered that people Bryson were more than accommodating in terms of identifying political support for their device and registered dealers. I understand they have a goal to bring an engine newly engineered product out of future. Hard to imagine it'll be much better than this amazing device

I attempted to send in my MD-102 in to Magnum Dynalab for the regular replacement of aged caps and a few small components they use to do as a service. Then asked if they could simply send me the regular replacement parts if they could not service it any more.

Nope. Nope. No help at all. Seems that’s all done now, fwiw. 

So, brought my MD-102 to a local retried tech friend to check it out. So far he’s removed the board and found 12 small cheap caps to replace and two others larger ones he wants to replace with very high quality "AN Gates like" caps he wants to replace. I asked him to take his time, stress testing it leaving it on for days.  

Ask;

If anyone knows good techs around the USA who can provide confident refresh / upgrade services for Magnum Dynalab tuners, could be super helpful for those looking to keep these units. I sure enjoy mine, and hoping this refresh works.  Will know more in a few weeks. 

Please add name/contacts here if you know of them who are openly interesed in refreshing MD tuners, hopefully a few of them can surface to us here on Agon! :)
