Thank you for the link. I haven’t had the pleasure of listening to the L2. Only compared the Melco to a bare drive. I use to own the X1 and liked it a lot. .
Lumin X2 Has anyone used this device yet?

I own the Lumin X1 and I have been very happy with it. Recently Lumin has now released the X2 model.
The updated X2 is supposed to have superior internal components that exceed the X1 in sonic attributes.
Still, there doesn't seem to be much info that I can find about it compared to the X1.

@spenav Well the good news for you is that Melco—and the L2— had excellent sound quality performance. The reviewer thought the fiber optic connection of the L2 might have a small advantage but he seemed to think it would be difficult to detect in a blind test. I own the L2 and have been impressed with it. |
I still don’t understand the need for these devices with the Lumin X1 or X2. I have an 8TB hard drive (with all of my LP’s SACD, CD’s Downloads), connected to the Lumin with a short USB cable. (Note: I have the Hard Drive backed up with a couple others.) And I am using a fiber cable from my EtherRegen directly to the X2, this connection was better (sound quality wise) than using an ethernet cable. So, I still don’t see the benefit of the Lumin L2 or Melco unit. ozzy |

Ozzy, I can understand your mystification with the L2 and Melco. How could they possibly make a difference beyond simply adding a hard drive/NAS? I can’t speak for Melco but in my system, the L2 was a game changer. I use it both as a switch and a library. I also use an EtherRegen with fiber out (turned around from typical use) to the L2 and then fiber to the X2. One of its RJ45 copper inputs feeds my Roon NUC. I suggest you read some of the L2 reviews from the Lumin website. They do a much better job than I could in describing its benefits.
