Lumin X2 Has anyone used this device yet?

Lumin X2 Has anyone used this device yet?

I own the Lumin X1 and I have been very happy with it. Recently Lumin has now released the X2 model.

The updated X2 is supposed to have superior internal components that exceed the X1 in sonic attributes.

Still, there doesn't seem to be much info that I can find about it compared to the X1.

maxwave,

Yes, the X2 s is that much better than the X1, which is a fine piece. The differences are: a much deeper and wider soundstage with better 3D imaging that is quite impressive.

@spenav A German HiFi publication compared a Melco music server to the Lumin L2 library/switch.  You might find the test interesting.  It can be translated into English directly on the site.

@mifanning

Thank you for the link. I haven’t had the pleasure of listening to the L2. Only compared the Melco to a bare drive. I use to own the X1 and liked it a lot. .

@spenav Well the good news for you is that Melco—and the L2— had excellent sound quality performance.  The reviewer thought the fiber optic connection of the L2 might have a small advantage but he seemed to think it would be difficult to detect in a blind test.  I own the L2 and have been impressed with it.

I still don’t understand the need for these devices with the Lumin X1 or X2. I have an 8TB hard drive (with all of my LP’s SACD, CD’s Downloads), connected to the Lumin with a short USB cable. (Note: I have the Hard Drive backed up with a couple others.)

And I am using a fiber cable from my EtherRegen directly to the X2, this connection was better (sound quality wise) than using an ethernet cable.

So, I still don’t see the benefit of the Lumin L2 or Melco unit.
