Sonny Rollins has passed

RIP.

billstevenson

One of the greatest reed players anywhere, anytime. A titan. He outlived all his friends and loved ones and was a shut-in due to pulmonary issues; his life was not easy the past 4-5 years. I felt relief when I learned he passed (for his sake, I mean). RIP Sonny Rollins!

One of the best….i could listen to him for hours on end. I agree with @earthbound on Colossus. I recently picked up the Go West 3 record vinyl box set from Contemporary Records. It includes the nicely mastered Way Out West album. Beautiful!!

And I also love his masterful work for the Stones on Waiting for a Friend.

Peace be with you Sonny!!

Toshiko Akyoshi-96 and Lew Tabackin-86, Terry Gibbs-101, Ron Carter-89. Charles Lloyd-88, Joanne Brackeen-87 and Herbie Hancock 86. There are probably many more "Jazz Titans" alive over 85.
