Disappointments

Have you ever auditioned some gear in a shop, bought it because you were thoroughly impressed, and felt it was a total letdown once you got it home?

I will not buy gear without a home trial unless it is fairly easy to ship and return or inexpensive. The room is half the sound.

The room is almost irrelevant when you do near field listening. That's how you test equipment to begin with. You eliminate the room. And if it sounds good then you add the room. Clean wall current delivery is half the sound, and few of us have it these days.

To answer the question. No, no disappointments, I read before buying and before listening, if I can audition it at all. Usually not, I buy mostly used and will not exploit dealers.

I have always learned from the disappointments in life. It is part of life but from corporations that bring that i don't go back for seconds. Enjoy the music and life

I will also only buy gear I can home demo for the most part.   I was disappointed when I bought a pair of Revel m106 used and realized I liked my PSB M2 much better.   Moral of that story was don't sell your speakers before trying what you want to replace them with  side by side.
