Nope. Never. Sorry, but true.
Can This Idea Be A Viable Resource
I’ve been thinking about traveling more now that my wife and I are fully retired. Which lead to me to wonder and lament in equal measure about how I miss my sound system when we travel for a lengthly - more than a week - duration. The idea is can us like minded, trusting but willing to accept liability guidelines, folks, create a network of homes we are willing to rent / trade out - with audiophile grade systems we can shop = like we presently do when we plan a vacation? I would love to spend a week or two in a home with a killer rig that I can test drive -

+1 @elliottbnewcombjr , but I wonder if agon is the right place. For it to be useful to me, I'd need SMS from a trusted number so it doesn't get ignored. I rarely check my agon feed and email is also spotty with so much spam. We'd need a way to vet people and trace any criminal activity. I've heard facebook is good for buying and selling locally. Would something like that work for this purpose? I be happy to host travelers for a daytime or evening listening session and even happier to do the same when I get around to traveling. Gainesville FL on the way to ORL theme parks. Maybe someone could use AI to vibe code an audiophile social media app that includes dealer vetting? |
My rig is in my secondary home which I had built and had a room built with a wet bar to enjoy my system. Whenever I go it’s like a renewed love for your system. And it’s like hearing it for the first time all over again. It’s gives an appreciation and new found joy for what you built. And every time I go I enjoy it more and more. Gives meaning to the phrase absence makes the heart grow fonder. |
I’m a traveler, all 50 states and 50 countries so far. I agree with the comments about traveling for new experiences away from my normal life. Like most audiophiles I’ve spent a lot of time and expense building a system that I’m proud of and enjoy immensely (can be seen on this forum). However, I would draw the line at having a fellow traveler tinkering with my system with me not being there. I just couldn’t fathom it!! However, I could certainly entertain the idea of belonging to a network of audiophile travelers who would want to come visit my home and share a listening experience from my system with food, wine, beverages, etc.. That I would welcome and in my presence would be allowed to handle the equipment to get the experience. No problem! I rent airbnb’s every year while traveling but I find that the rental homes and townhouse airbnb’s are supplied with only the essentials for a stay. Very basic furnishings and supplies, Which is fine because I’m visiting and not moving in, but none are equipped with audiophile worthy systems. I can’t imagine swapping my home which has artifacts that I’ve bought from all over the world that potentially could be broken or taken. A lot of the artifacts are irreplaceable as some countries I will never visit again. If you’re visiting the San Francisco Bay Area, “Come on down!!” I live 10 minutes from Napa Valley… |
