Tube type question, 12JGT, 12JGT, PC86, for Thoress FF preamp.

I’m having a hard time finding a specific tube type listed in the manual for my preamp, Thoress FF (Full Function) Preamp. I’m wanting to retube and tube roll.

It lists:

2x 12J5GT   found many on eBay etc. no issue. Other then maybe a recommendation of which brand / sound signature.

2x 12JGT     I can’t find anything online about this one. I’m wondering if the manual has a typo. I’ve reached out to Thoress. I’ve only found 12J5 and 12J7 types

2x PC86       Also found many on eBay. Never encountered this tube type so not sure which brands are the best. From my reading this was an oscillator tube originally.

Any assistance in tube recommendation and if you know what that 12J tube is, I’m aware that the GT only means glass tube.

Cheers.

Elliot:

Yes - and the ad copy does a nice job of splaining it.

I'm just finishing up a book of fiction chalk full of language "issues" by Paul Goldberg "The Chateau".

Published in 2017 and its underlying message is even more pertinent today.

@glennewdick  Any of the NIB JAN (Joint Army Navy) will do nicely, they’ll be less microphonic than the standard issues.  RCA or National Union.  They’re cheap enough that you can try a few different ones.

PS. That's a dandy-looking preamp!

Thanks Dogearsdaudio,

I've ordered a bunch of RCA JAN's and  few others. surprisingly lower priced tube type for once. so I'll be trying a couple different NOS tubes. and spares.

I just bought the preamp so i have not heard it yet, just getting things ready as it was used so no idea the tube life in the factory ones.

We will see if i can live without a remote and dual volumes. I've heard one in another system a few years ago and was very impressed for my tastes. Now I need to pair an amp to it to drive my Magico A3's.
