I just purchased a gigabit ethernet-fiber converter, SFP modules, and patch cables. $50 on Amazon. I think it makes a difference. Give it a try.
Eversolo T8
I recently purchased a T8. So far I am very pleased with the SQ and the ios app. Qobuz direct is a bit iffy. The question I have for the forum is if the T8 is interrupted by a sudden power loss, it just won’t correctly reboot and I have had to do a hard reset with a paper clip.
Is anyone experiencing this ? I have the T8 plugged into a PS Audio P300. Does anyone have experience plugging the T8 into a UPS or does it reduce SQ?
thanks

I’ve had the T8 and the Z10 for about 3 months hard wired with Ethernet with zero issues. I second the comments on the interface and build quality. Likewise, I agree Quobuz connect is preferred to the app on the T8. Roon works very well on it as well. This is one of the few streamers I found that allows me to have the SiriusXM app on it, which, for me is important. I wish you the best with your time with it and hope you find it works well. Maybe the best thing I can say about it: I don’t even think about it, it just works and I get to enjoy the music I love. PS: @jbhiller thanks for posting those links, I may very well try your set up out. |
While my setup is a little different than yours jbhiller, I agree using the fiber optic SFP module is the way to go. I was using wifi for months before trying SFP and while it sounded very good then, it sounds fantastic now. The biggest difference I observed is in detail and image retrieval. So much so I am now listing a lot more. Turning off the WiFi hardware in the T8 probably accounts for this improvement along with severing any electrical connection to the network (no ethernet). Do make sure you disable WIFI in the networking menu. |
I had their A10 for a while and it definitely is an impressive unit. I'm sure the T8 is similarly great. While I didn't experience the same thing as you after power outages, I do remember issues in general back when I had a MESH setup. Spent a lot of money on a well reviewed system, it worked great most of the time. But little problems kept popping up and I felt like an IT guy in my own home. Which is not what I'm looking for. I swapped it all out for Unifi equipment and couldn't be happier. It's expensive but not that much more than other quality "consumer" level gear. My uptime is currently in the several month range with literally zero issues, and the only reason it isn't longer is that I rebooted it myself when messing with the app. Just something to look in to if you find yourself frustrated with your network like I was. |
