Steppenwolf

Someone recently said, "I think it's time we gave Steppenwolf a second listen."

So I am. I bought "Magic Carpet Ride, The Dunhill/ABC Years 1967-1971"

I like it so much that when I was wondering what was in the CDP this morning I thought,

"That's not Steppenwolf! This is BS!"

Does anyone else feel the same?

their big hits sound dated (I never really liked magic carpet ride), but a couple of deep tracks hung with me...desperation (humble pie did a killer cover) and easy evil (technically a john Kay solo track, but a great song nonetheless)

Ever really listen to all the layers of feedback in the beginning of Magic Carpet Ride?  Gotta love it!

Also love the way Goldie "slaps" the keys on the Hammond to get that distinctive sound.  Nobody else does it quite like him.

Currently cleaning my pp of Early Steppenwolf
