Best concert you've attended

Mine is The Doobie Brothers, at the Civic Center in Amarillo Texas, in 1976. I was 16 years old.

The weed smoked all around us was good  too.

Had an In on tickets in Detroit in the 70’s. So if they came, I saw them. My 3 favorites:

1. 1970 Olympia stadium. Johnny Winter, Rod Stewart, 3 Dog Night. My first major concert.
2. 1972 Cobo Hall. Stevie Wonder, The Rolling Stones. Because Stevie was from Detroit, they jammed together at the end, playing “Uptight” & “Satisfaction”.
3. 1975 Olympia. Carlos Santana, Eric Clapton. Again, jamming together at the end. Fantastic.

So many great ones. But if I must pick just one, it would be Al Di Meola in about 1973(?) or so. I could be off by a couple of years. It was his first solo tour after breaking away from Return To Forever. That show changed my musical tastes forever. What a band!

Hank Jones 85th Birthday, 2003 at the Blue Note, NYC.

Several nights, musician friends from all over the world came to play with him. The night we went, lucky seats, it went on I seem to remember for over 3 hours, just incredible. I lost the program with the long list of musicians.

I had my big Sony R1 Professional Looking Camera.

I posted this on dpreview

"Shooting where not supposed to, or don't want to bother anyone at all,

I practice aiming between heads, perhaps resting on edge of seat, or camera on the table propped up with something, (matchbooks in the old days) ... prior to the show, then shoot completely blind, perhaps checking aim occasionally. You get what you get.

Hank Jones 85th Birthday at the Blue Note, my R1, I acted like I was the press, forward I went, it went on for over 3 hours, so many musicians came to town to be there."

Best: The band Chicago,  1974, Omaha.  My first concert ( I was16) festival seating/standing, weed everywhere, lots of pretty girls to sway with.  The band played hit after hit and encore after encore until midnight! RIP Terry Kath

#2  Queen, 1979, Hilton Coliseum, Ames, Iowa.  Need I say more?  RIP Freddy

#3 Kenny Rogers, Hilton Coliseum, Ames, Iowa, 1981.  The stage was oval shaped and set up in the middle of the floor-everyone could get a good view.  Opening acts were country singer Charly Mcclain and one of the Gallagher brothers doing his riotous Sledege-o-matic routine.  I bought 4 extra tickets ($20 at the time) and treated my mom and dad, and their neighbors.  Loved seeing the grin on my dad's face
