SME

Way back when, before fax machines, I was given a Thorens TD124 with an SME 3009 II (both needing repair).

I wrote SME in England, asking for the price of the rubber sleeve that isolates the counterweight section from the front end of the arm.

I expected an answer, either no longer available or send $____ for this part number.

I recieved a reply, with the part, with an invoice, trusting me to pay.

That's Class.

Braun, BAD

In 1967 I bought a Braun coffee grinder from Design Research like this one, mine white

I wrote Braun, asking for a new blade.

Braun replied, one short sentance:

"Your Unit is Obsolete".

My brother sent me a new blade, didn't fit, but, looking at it, I figured out, the secret is to file the edge of the blade flat, not sharp like a lawn mower blade.

It still works,

McIntosh, Great.

I prearranged a trip to my photography friend in Vestal (town adjacent to Binghamton, NY) with McIntosh for a checkup of a SS C28 Preamp and SS MC2250 Amp that I wanted checked over before I sold them.

I drop them off Thursday right after lunch, pick up Tuesday right after lunch.

They had them ready to go as promised (no problems with either piece). Easier to sell with receipts of checkup from McIntosh.

I had great experience with Dynaudio and Buchardt. Prompt, friendly, detailed responses.

Manley as well.

Then there are "onepercenters" who are arrogant and rude but that wasn’t the question
