On a different note, share the artists you own that DON'T sound good

I'm going to say something radical: Donald Fagen's "The Nightfly"

Super crisp, clear, punchy -- but that early digital glare is really hard to take. Even he moved away from those recording methods on subsequent albums. Compare Nightfly to Kamakiriad or Sunken Condos and the difference is undeniable.

Can’t think of any that never sound good. If that is the case it’s possible either the hifi needs some work or expectations need to change or both. 

@mapman - I didn’t say "never", I said "usually". So, that is not the case. My system, in my acoustically treated room, with meticulous setup, is most assuredly resolving enough to notice the level of sound quality of every album I play. I even am able to grade the sound quality of each album with letters A, B, C, and D. Fortunately, almost all my albums are in classes A and B.

PS- two of my friends are recording engineers. They both have told me my system sounds as good or better than what they hear at work.

Hmm still tough but I’d say I have been disappointed in various Jethro Tull album’s sound off the cuff in that I tend to have high expectations for sound quality with progressive rock bands more so than others.
